Castle Rock Breakfast Nook & Sitting Room Addition

Project Statement

Objective:

• Create a new informal Nook that allows the owners to enjoy the beautiful, expansive view of their rural property

• Design a small intimate Hearth Room

• Define two separate areas in one large space open to existing kitchen

Solution:

• The informal Nook was designed with a three sided addition using large windows on all three sides to frame the beautiful views

• Definition of the Hearth Room was achieved by partially closing the passage to the Living Room and adding a fireplace wrapped with an elegant stone surround

Results:

• An open yet defined design gives a sense of two separate rooms, but blends the openness of the kitchen and living room

• Natural light fills the open room from the see-thru fireplace and the glass above the mantle; as an added benefit the fireplace can be enjoyed from both the Hearth Room and Deck

• Creative use of existing design elements and finishes allowed the new construction to blend seamlessly with the original structure
